Wood Wharf and its joint venture partners, Canary Wharf Group, Ballymore Properties and British Waterways lodged, have lodged planning applications with Tower Hamlets Council, for two buildings, W01 and W02-03, next to Canary Wharf
Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates are the architects for W01, which is 134m tall structure and will contain 911,000 sq ft of office space.
Pelli Clarke Pelli are the architects for W02-03, at 194m high and offering 1.6m sq ft of floor space. The same architects designed One Canada Square, the prime commercial building in Canary Wharf.
The Wood Wharf construction should be finished over 10-15 years in four phases.
Six commercial buildings will give about 4.9m sq ft of shared office space and six residential blocks offering up to nearly 1,700 homes of which 35% will be classified as affordable.
There will also be:
neighbourhood facilities comprising a new clinic and wellness centre, open-air market and leisure services
a riverside park
waterfront boardwalks, a new canal and natural science spots
a hotel by the river
foot and cycle paths from the Wood Wharf area to Canary Wharf
a high street which will give an opportunity to independent local trades people as well as restaurants, bars, shops, and cafés
The Wood Wharf plans were given preliminary planning permission last year, in October, including finishing a S106 agreement, worth £150m. Tower Hamlets will benefit by a planning investment of £50m and £100m will go the Crossrail link. This is one of the largest area and infrastructure benefits Section 106 packages have achieved.
