Thursday, April 16th, 2009

So here’s the truth, much of it surprising, on what may really support those looking for the answer to hair loss.

Myth. This is a fantasy put forward on the basis that increased blood flow would combat hair loss. If merely it was that easy.

Smoking stunts your hair growth.

Fact! Yes, this one is TRUE as smoking destroys hair follicles, interferes with blood and hormone circulation within the scalp & increases production of hair shrinking oestregen. Nevertheless another reason to give up!

Eating bread crusts puts hairs on the chest.

Fact! Yes, & not just your chest. The reason being that bread crusts enjoy eight times additional antioxidants than the rest of its’ loaf. Studying shows that antioxidants are a vital part of increasing scalp circulation & creating melanin, the hormone that makes one’s hair thicker.

The more sex you have the less hair one lose.

Fantasy! You don’t have to think too hard to realise how this myth may have started & countless balding men have perpetuated. Variations of all this myth comprise of the rumour that chemicals released during sex should cause hair loss. Again, there are no scientific proof to this but there is no doubt that men with hair loss will probably ensure this fantasy is around for countless years to come.

Baldness shows how smart you are.

Fact! This are not a fantasy promoted by balding scientists in white coats, however is actually true. The higher your levels of brain growth protein, the more possible it is for your hair to fall out. Further on this when those scientists really eventually get their brain cells firing.

Does short hair cut makes one’s hair grow back thicker.

False! All hair above skin level is actually dead, therefore cutting it short comes with no cause in its’ thickness and strength of hair growing back. The reason for this fantasy is that short, bristly hair might enjoy the apperance of being thicker, but once it grows the TRUE state of affairs is revealed.

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

To generate profits every self publisher requires lots of traffic to their blog or site. It is from that targeted traffic that the self publisher will be able to generate their income. Either by getting enough subscribers to their advertising email newsletter or getting the right numbers to pay for their paid email newsletter. Not to mention being able to expose a published book to enough people to be able to generate sales online.

Many online self publishers have a budget for online and offline ads to help them generate the valuable targeted traffic that they usually require to succeed. Write Like A Pro

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

You’ve had punctuation and grammar shoved down your throat since grade school. This isn’t another “techie” post. It’s about smoothing out your writing like a pro. If you haven’t learned the following easy tips, learn them, and I promise you will be an exponentially better writer.

I feel like the following tips don’t need big explanations; that could actually confuse more than teach. Instead, I will give examples of clumsy writing compared to smooth writing, then I will give brief explanations.

Let’s examine a paragraph, shall we?

Harriet was sitting on the couch knitting all day. Her good friend called her on the phone and said that she needed someone to have a conversation with. So Harriet began to tell her to relax. Her friend was glad, and she started to calm down.

All the boldfaced words can be “smoothened”:

was sitting… sat

her on the phone… [delete] Cut unneeded words.

that… [delete] Cut unneeded words.

conversation with… with which to have a conversation Don’t end a sentence with a preposition.

So… [delete] Don’t begin a sentence with a conjunction.

began to tell… began telling Often you can combine “to” with the following verb.

Her friend was glad, and she started to calm down… Glad, her friend started calming Condense sentences, cutting unneeded words.

Now, let’s read the paragraph with the changes.

Harriet sat on the couch knitting all day. Her good friend called and said she needed someone with which to have a conversation. Harriet began telling her to relax. Glad, her friend calmed.

These sort of tips are good to keep in mind while writing. They are especially useful when you’re on your last edits of a manuscript.

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

From our deconstruction of hundreds of Hollywood blockbusters….

The Hero’s Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the Hollywood movies we have deconstructed are based on this template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

The Hero’s Journey:

a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

and more…

Term Paper Assignments

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Term papers constitute an important aspect of a student’s career. Rather than treating it as a dry document consisting of merely information, you should concentrate on making it creative, imaginative, interesting and a pleasure to read. To do this, and more, you need to consider a few things before actually beginning the task of writing it down.

First of all, if you haven’t already received a specific topic assignment from your instructor, decide upon the topic. While making this decision, consider its relevance, currency, and interest, and also whether you will be able to research it easily. Study and analyze the topic carefully to decide whether the aim of the term paper is to present a report, or review a topic. In some cases the term paper can also be an oral presentation. Analyzing this is important, because, based on the aim, you will need to ensure that you don’t end up making any claims that you cannot support with facts and data.

Once you are at home with the topic, concentrate on the next important aspect, which is to decide how much information you actually require. Both too little and too much information will become a problem. Suppose while writing the term paper you realize that your information is not enough, and you also have to meet a deadline. This will create a problem for you because last minute work can ruin your assignment. If you have too much information, you will have the additional task of winnowing it down to your requirement. The point here is that the information researched should definitely be more than you require, but not so much time that it detracts from your ability to complete the paper.

Once your material is in place, create an outline by working out the paragraphs you wish to include and also the points you want to specify in them. At this point you can begin writing your term paper, but before submitting, go through it carefully and edit the work for punctuation and grammar, and style.

Not A Term Paper Mill!

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

I have seen jobs posted for help with term papers. What I mean by “help” is a little more than editing a student’s term paper. Specifically, there are college students who are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to have someone else write a paper for them. This practice is nothing new, but it is much more prevalent than many folks realize.

Truthfully, I could probably make a good sum of money writing term papers for the rich kids out there. In college, I usually garnered an “A” or “A-” on my papers. Yes, I did quite well and that was due to my paying attention to what the professor wanted written and being thorough with my research. Once my research was completed, I worked very hard to produce a “jam up” paper. It was exhausting work, but personally rewarding!

So, my policy is this: write the paper yourself. Learn how to do it the right way and show some integrity and fortitude. You will be a better person for it, too, and prove to yourself that you can overcome a challenge.

How about you? Do you accept every project that comes along or do you have certain standards in place? How you answer these questions speaks volumes about you as a writer and as a person.

Academic Hoods

Wearing academic hoods during graduation ceremonies dates back to the 14th century when scholars wore them as a sign of academic excellence to demonstrate their academic achievements. The hood is conspicuously worn around the shoulder and neck area. A significant piece of the hood hangs on the back of the privileged individual who puts it on. In addition, the lower back portion folds to expose the inner lining while the front part is attached to the shirt button.

academic hoods
are accompanied by a cap, cowl and liripipe but their patterns comply with different guidelines that vary from place to place depending on the design that is associated with a particular institution. However, the two most common forms of academic regalia are the simple shaped and the full shaped hoods. The only difference being that the simple hood has no cap. They may have a velvet or boarder lining to point out their area of specialization and their level of study. However, the most important aspect of academic hoods is the message the different colors of academic hoods intend to pass during the graduation ceremony. The various colors may be a bit cryptic but the colors and disciplines are standardized.
