BSkyB Ties up with Omnifone to Launch Music Download Service

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

The Mobile World Congress held at Barcelona saw an interesting first day, with BSkyB announcing that it is on the verge of launching a music download service that would compete with the market leader in this category Apple’s iTunes. They are not alone in this endeavour and their services would be launched in partnership with Omnifone.

BSkyB’s offer is that they will charge a minimal monthly fee from Sky and non-Sky broadband customers and in return, offer unlimited access to digital music services and free downloads. In addition, music lovers would face no problems such as those because of Digital Rights Management when saving their favourite music.

This announcement could be a breakthrough move for the music industry as it tries to save itself from the onslaught of music piracy. The industry’s leading body IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) had earlier observed that music piracy and file sharing was eating into their revenues as it accounted for almost 95% of all the music downloaded in 2008. This percentage equates to a staggering 40 billion tracks being downloaded illegally across the globe.

BSkyB’s spokesperson further said that they had already entered deals with leading labels such as Universal Music who have recently represented upcoming artists like Amy Winehouse and Kanye West. Although the launch of BSkyB’s services has been delayed a bit, they have used that time to involve some major labels and music publishers. Also discussed at the event were the growing problems of music piracy and measures that could be employed to limit it, such as enforcing some sort of a music download tax.

Gaining Business Cover Is Particularly Vital to the Triumph of Your Business

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

There is no question the fact that the success of a firm comes down to the work of the team, however one incident can wipe out all your efforts and reduce the income to zero. In order to keep away from such an occasion, you ought to insure your company, whether it’s a small business or a large corporation. Yet, please keep in mind that smaller organisations are considerably more likely to need business insurance cover in today’s world. This is for the most part since smaller company owners will have put their whole lives & pay packet into the company.

Several of the things frequently covered by most business insurance covers include: natural disasters, landslides, mechanism or equipment malfunction that closes down the organisation, loss of revenue attributed to employee fault and litigation brought against the organisation. Buy business insurance from an authorised and regulated company online today.

There are loads of insurance organisations, which provide policies that include protection for all chief property and liability risks in one big package. You can also get hold of a separate coverage. Such a policy cover is often called a business owners’ policy (BOP). Big companies might well obtain a business-related policy.

BOPs incorporate building insurance for buildings & kit belonging to the business. If there is any loss of income because of disruption of operation and commerce because of disasters such as hurricanes, it can be protected under the Business Interruption policy.

There are various liabilities, which insure the businesses legal responsibility for the damage it may cause to others. It is the result your organisation’s failure to do the business operations. It can also be the physical injury or property damage caused owing to malfunctioning products, faulty fittings and blunders in services provided.

However, BOPs don’t protect against professional liability, car cover, staff compensation or health and disability cover. Instead separate policies are crucial for professional services, commercial vehicles and staff. On average, floods, earthquakes and terrorist attacks are not covered in the business policy. Please double check before you purchase a policy!

Self Improvement Ideas: The Search For Inner Peace

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

I have no doubt that there are many people out there who are searching for ways of improving their overall quality of life. We have no divine right to be happy of course but on the other hand we should not just sit back and accept second best. I am the type of person who basically just wants to be happy, I have no desire to become mega rich, but what I am looking for, and at the moment have achieved, is an inner peace.

When looking into ways and ideas of improving my life, I ask myself a series of questions:

What areas of my life am I not happy with?

What can I do to improve my life?

Am I happy with my current role of employment?

Am I happy with my current financial situation?

Am I happy in the relationship that I have with my girlfriend?

How could my life become easier and more stress-free?

These are just a few of many questions that I ask myself and I have listed them purely as an example.

In the past, I would always become quite stressed at around the start of the year. This was because I have a son who has a birthday in November, then of course in December is the celebration of Christmas. These two events would leave me with a bit of a financial headache as I have to admit that I tend to spoil my family and go a bit overboard on the spending.

I did not want to reduce the amount that I spent on their presents or on the social aspect of Christmas or my sons birthday and instead started to look for a solution to this financial stress which as previously stated would occur in January.

What I eventually decided that I would do, which now seems just like common sense, was to save as much as I could every month. I would have a certain figure in mind that I wanted to save, as I was aware that I needed to live and have some fun throughout the year as well. By the time November came around on the next year, I had rather a nice amount of money in the bank, which basically made both events even more enjoyable than previous years. This was because I had an inner peace of mind. When January came around I was fine as I had no debts or financial worries. This form of saving is something that I now do every year.

With each and every question I ask myself, I always attempt to find a solution similar to the way I did in the above example. If my girlfriend is annoying me for whatever reason I try and talk to her. I tell her what the issues are and also ask if there is anything that I am doing that annoys her. This is done in a very light hearted manner, so as to not cause more damage etc.

I have now reached a stage of my life where I am quite content with what I have. I am able to sleep soundly at night and am very much looking forward to the future. I have achieved an inner peace and now just have to work hard to make it stay that way. Life at times is a battle and the negative part of my brain tries hard to ruin me. I am determined to stay strong and focused to ensure that I ignore this negative voice and that I continue to listen to the positive side of my brain.

If you are one of these people who are not happy or content with your life at the moment, I am sure that by asking yourself a series of questions and then trying to find your own solutions, that you will also be able to find your own inner peace.

Change vs Transition

Friday, February 13th, 2009

“There is a time for departure, even when there’s no certain place to go.” — Tennessee Williams

The words change and transition are often used interchangeably. In truth, they have very separate and different meanings.

Change is a one-time occurrence: we change jobs, change clothes, change living arrangements. Change is a shift from one person, place or thing to another.

Transition is the ongoing process of dealing with a change. Transition is letting go of how things were and embracing how things might become. Transition is a shift from one state of being to another.

Change can be self imposed or imposed upon us. Buying a new home is usually a change we impose upon ourselves. Moving into the new home is the change. Learning to let go of the way things were is the transition. In moving to a new home this could be dealing with a new route to work, missing our old neighbors, learning to use new appliances. Until we are comfortable with the new and willing to let go of the old we are in transition.

The death of a loved one is a change imposed upon us. Not only did we not choose the path we are on, but also we aren’t even sure if we can see a path. We are confused, frightened and sometimes feel powerless to accept the change thrust upon us. We can’t move because we are unable to let go of the past and can’t see what might be ahead. As we learn to accept that the old is no more and that we must embrace the new, we are in transition.

Sometimes transitions are not created by change (or at least not by change we can identify), but, by an internal shift in our being: a shift that tells us something is different in the way we feel about certain people, places, or things. Transition can sometimes precede change. When we decide to look for a new job, we don’t just wake up one morning and decide to make a change. Rather, it is usually an idea that has been formulating for some time (transition). We may have been unhappy in our job for a long time, wanting more responsibility, a higher salary, a new boss or even a new career path. When we have accomplished the “idea” time we are ready to make a change.

So far it looks as if our lives are in a continuous stage of transition and they are. With that said, it is important to develop the skills to live in transition. Transition periods can be the most productive periods of our lives, if we understand that letting go is not dismissing what has happened. Transition is, instead, the period in which we accept what has happened and we search for the path to follow forward. That search can lead us to new and creative ways to live our lives.

The Future of Your Child Son or Daughter, where to Invest the 250 Poundschild Trust Fund Voucher,Invest Your Free Child Trust Fund Voucher with Scottish Friendly,Investing in a Child Trust Fund Really Adds up for Yourchild, the CTF Account and Your Chiid’s

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

So what is this Child Trust Fund that all the talk is about? Are you one of the lucky people who are in the know about the Child Trust Fund? Are you clued up on the Child Trust Fund?Few UK parents startling

low number of parents appear to know about the fact that all infants receive a free £250 voucher from the the State to put. The vouchercan be invested in any one of threesorts of CTF account, Stakeholder – a shares-based account that switchesinto cash, a savings account or a shares account. It is a great opportunity to for the future life of a infant

Scottish Friendly is a licensed provider of the Child Trust Fund Voucher. The Government is eager for the public at large to have access to Stakeholder accounts and this is the kind of account that we are providing. This means that:

• Investments are sent into Scottish Friendly’s Managed Growth Fund, which seeks to provide good growth potential
• It invests partly in shares to make the most of potentially higher returns over 18 years, compared to a cash deposit account (although the value of shares candecrease as well as go up whereas capital would be protected in a deposit account)
• It comes with a low ‘Stakeholder’ funds charge of just 1.5% per year
• At age 18 the young person will get a lump sum, wholly free of Capital Gains and Income Tax under prevailing law
• It is very affordable – extra payments can be put in the account from as little as £10

One of the great attractions of the Child Trust Fund is that anyone – parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends – can contribute to the Fund to a maximum of £1,200 per year to help increase the child’s Fund (once added, this money cannot be withdrawn).

All this means our Stakeholder account offers a good balance between possible high returns and a reduced level of risk. There is also the additional assurance that our account meets with the Government’s stakeholder criteria. However this does not mean that returns are assured or that Stakeholder accounts are appropriate for everyone. Bear in mind that the value of shares in the Managed Growth Fund (where your Child Trust Fund money is held) can fall as well as increase and is not guaranteed.

Only infants whose birthday is on or after 1st September 2002 are eligible to open a Child Trust Fund. If you have older kids who are not eligible you could contemplate saving for them with a Child Bond – it’s a tax-free savings plan looking for long-term growth. It is undoubtedly the case that investing for your daughter is a rewarding means of preparing for hard times that may lie ahead.

How To Save Your Marriage

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Two people vow to love each other and to take good care of each other no matter what the cost, in sickness and in health, till death to they part. But when the going gets too rough to handle, how can two people save their marriage? Better yet, can a broken marriage still be saved?

It is a wonder how a beautiful and ideal marriage can turn sour in a matter of years, some even just a matter of months. It could be that these two people got married hurriedly without getting to know each other well. For some, there is just no way for them to be together in marriage.

Most marriages experience difficulty because of lack of communication between spouses. Sometimes, spouses have become too familiar with each other that they live together without taking the time to know the other’s feelings. Sometimes, marital obligations become so heavy and time-consuming that a day goes by without the spouses talking to each other.

There are spouses who have become so familiar with each other that they have forgotten that they are still two different people who need to respect the other for their individual qualities. Sometimes, the basic niceties like thank you and please or excuse me are forgotten as couples live their lives together.

Too much familiarity with each other can sometimes ruin a marriage. Some married people disregard their spouses just because they are already married and they think that there is no need to woo the other. This is a wrong notion of marriage because the wooing should not at the altar.

When to know when the marriage needs fixing

Most often, couples have become used to ignoring each other and living with each other physically without the emotional connection that it is already difficult to see the signs of a problematic marriage. So how do couples know that they are falling apart and their marriage needs to be looked into?

When two people who used to have fun together stop laughing at and with each other, then they should stop and look at what they have. Do they still have a relationship or has it been ruined by the challenges faced by married couples as they go through life everyday?

The first sign of an ailing marriage is when the spouses no longer have fun with each other. It is understand able for spouses to go about their daily tasks especially when they have children to feed and take care of. However, when weeks pass and you are no longer aware of how the other is doing and you no longer exchange knowing glances, then you have a troubled marriage that needs to be saved.

One way of dealing with an ailing marriage is to open your communication lines. No matter what the problem is, you can still solve your marriage if you talk and listen to each other. However, the spouses have to decide for themselves first whether they want to save the marriage or to just let it go.

Saving a marriage is not easy. In fact, it is easily said than done. This is particularly true if the spouses have already caused so much damage to the marriage and they have hurt each other’s feelings beyond repair. That is why to save a marriage, it is important that both parties be willing to address the problem and to sacrifice and solve the cause of the problem.

The Difference Between Good and Great

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Ever notice how some people have all the luck? They seem to attract clients and business effortlessly, and win awards without even trying. Even the media seems to seek them out.

So what makes THEM the anointed ones…. and not you?

The difference is passion.

Passion is what makes us get up in the morning, excited about what we’re going to do. It’s what pushes us through tasks we’d rather not do – and propels us through those that are ordinarily intimidating.

Passion is something bigger, too. It’s a healing essence that makes whatever we do seem guided, and so very attractive to others. Things that are passionately created are truly magnetic – we all want a piece, so we, too, can be healed.

I first became aware of this on a speaking tour I did in Florida a few years back. At the time, I spoke at a New Age bookstore/tea salon in Key West, FL called Kindred Spirit.

This wasn’t a ‘must do’ stop on the circuit of major bookstores; when the owners invited me to speak, they didn’t even have a location yet for their store. Still, there was something about Kelly and Karen, the owners, which resonated with me when I met them at a conference.

They had a certain intensity, the air of women on a mission. It was clear they would have exactly the space they wanted, and it would be great. Not only that, I would do an event with them, and that would be great. The Powers That Be were clearly whispering in their ear.

When I got to Key West, my hunch was confirmed. Every inch of this store held things that were beautiful and unique, each artfully arranged. Karen had hand-painted fresh, original calligraphy on the walls, and they had composed their space so you could wander at will, finding treasures at every turn. There was even a tiny antechamber, beautifully decorated, where you could have a reading with a remarkable psychic. Lace-covered tea tables here and there waited for you to sit down, relax, and have superb cup of tea. The effect of being in Kindred Spirit was that my travel-jagged soul was immediately soothed. This store had the ability to heal people.

That healing comes from what some call “the essence”. It’s an immutable standard for your work that comes from within, a refusal to deliver less than exactly what your soul told you to create. And this takes considerable work.

When I met Karen and Kelly, they were coming off of weeks of 12-hour days putting the finishing touches on their store and holding their first event. They had that slightly insane, but critically important vision you get that pushes you forward, and forward, and forward, until you do create exactly what you want. They had passion, pure and simple.

And please note that such work is not just a non-stop string of blissed out moments of creativity. There are many when you just want to go home and climb into bed. There are just as many when you lie awake worrying. Still, there is something sacred and holy that pushes you forward, whether it be the ‘essence’ or your own hands-on interpretation of God or Spirit.

Not surprisingly, all of Key West turned out for my talk at Kindred Spirit; the event was electric! All, I say, because people wanted that healing at the heart of Karen and Kelly’s hard work.

So how do you summon up the essence? For Karen and Kelly, it was just a matter of finding the courage to leave their jobs and follow their heart. And that’s true for all of us. If you can listen to your inner voices, you’ll find that back there behind the voices of doubt is your own private cheering squad.

They want you to go for the gusto and begin your dreams; they want you to live your dreams – and they’ll make it more possible than you may believe. I say anyone can summon up their passion. First they have to find the courage to begin. Then they simply have to dig in and find that gift they’re blessed with, and move on to share it with others.

May you be as moved as I’ve been by the healing work of all creators, great, small, famous and unknown, who are driven by nothing more than their desire to deliver what they feel. And may you discover the same within yourself. ©2005 Suzanne Falter-Barns LLC.

5 Keys to Maintaining Personal Change

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

I look out my window at daybreak as the sunrise creates tiny sparkles on sheets of frozen snow. Two mornings later, the snow and sparkles are gone. Even the warmer weather will not last long.

Within a few months, many people will realize that the sparkling changes they’ve worked for, and perhaps achieved, were short lived.

Maintaining personal change requires inner conditioning to clean out old beliefs and assumptions. It requires strong reasons, focus, self-discipline, and commitment. It also requires enough faith to be flexible for continued growth.

People begin with the best of intentions to change. However, it is easier to settle back into familiar habits. The changes do not feel comfortable enough to last. Often, desired results are not clear enough in mind to warrant long months or years of persistence.

Motives and Reasons for Change

Positive personal change requires strong reasons and compelling ways to do the work. Sometimes the person is inspired by the need to live differently. He or she says, “I’ve chosen this long enough,” or “I’m not tolerating this any longer.” Instantly, they change, and their lives soon begin to mirror that internal change.

A Steady Focus on Passions

Change and growth require a sharp and steady focus. They require looking through a powerful and steady mental lens to see clearly the person’s passions, strengths, and gifts. As children of a perfect Creator, we have the potential to stay focused, shining with our own unique light.

Self-discipline and Commitment

Maintaining change requires self-discipline and commitment. We fall down and get back up. It is difficult to practice or train for a new skill on days that we don’t feel like it. We need to rest and balance as needed but stick with the necessary actions.

Flexibility and Readjustment

Change also requires flexibility. Readjustment is part of the natural process of growth. In knowing this, we must consider that changes, at least in this world, are not actually permanent. Everything we know and experience here is subject to the “law of impermanence of all things”.

Faith in Purpose

We will also need the faith in our purposes to re-adjust — to grow through trial and error. This is where adversities become universities. We can study and observe the process over time; what appears as change is another lesson, a path to spiritual growth.

Consider these timeless thoughts:

“It is not the years but the changes that make us grow.”

~ Neal Maxwell

“Earth changes, but thy soul and God stand sure.”

~ Robert Browning (1812-1889)

We will experience many changes throughout the seasons of life. However, we can view changes as did Robert Browning and Neal Maxwell. Changes are sparkles that shine from the heart to make us grow spiritually strong. Beginning today, we can introduce new sparkles – lights of faith and soul that continue to illuminate the path ahead.

Work Hard Now or Work Hard Forever!

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

The title is a personal quote of mine that I find fits my life quite nicely, and I think it might fit yours too. Allow me to explain:

If “I work hard now,” I invest whatever time it takes to get my job done effectively and efficiently, and a bit more. Often this is above and beyond the 40 hours I am “paid” to work (I’m an exempt associate). If I work hard now, I’m able to get ahead of my peers who work “just hard enough” to get by and do what they do. By working hard now, I can avoid having to “work hard later” in my life, and my career, because I am setting the table for my future successes by investing the time right now to learn what I need to do to be successful, to get my name out there so people view me as an advocate for them, and to prove that I am willing to pay the price for success.

The harder I work now, the less hard I’ll have to work later. On the other hand, if I choose to be one who just gets by, then I’ll have to work hard forever and keep doing “just enough.” I’m sure you, like me, know plenty of people who do this, and then wonder why they never get ahead in their career or in their personal life. For me, I prefer to work hard now, put in my time, and rise to the top.

So it’s your choice, work hard now, or work hard forever. Simple enough really.
