Affordable Wedding Receptions

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Wedding receptions don’t have to cost a fortune. Many families are on tight budgets these days, limiting the parents’ ability to contribute financially and placing much of the burden of wedding expenses on young couples who are just starting out in life and on limited budgets themselves.

When planning a wedding reception, location is key. Depending on how many people are invited, you may need a sizable place to have the reception. Weather permitting, your wedding reception could be held in someone’s back yard or at a local park. My own wedding ceremony and reception were held at a local park in a specially reserved area (including gazebo) that cost only about $60 for the entire day. My mother and I recently hosted a wedding reception for my sister in our mobile home park’s club house. A $150 deposit was required, but the deposit was returned after we cleaned up and left the club house the way we found it. We had full access to a fully equipped kitchen, sitting area, tables, chairs, and restrooms for an entire day. Everything we needed was right there and didn’t cost us a dime.

Decorations that can be used after the reception is over more than pay for themselves. For my sister’s reception we created beautiful centerpieces for the tables by buying some glass Pyrex cereal bowls ($1 each at a local outlet mall) and placing green glass marbles from the craft store in the bottom of each. We then filled the bowls half way with water and placed a white rose- shaped floating candle in each. These attractive centerpieces were very easy to assemble in just a minute or two and in addition to lending their candlelight to the room made a wonderful inexpensive gift for the bride and groom–a complete set of matching cereal bowls!

Food also doesn’t have to require too much effort or added expense. My own wedding reception was a pot luck luncheon. My mother provided the sandwich rolls, sliced meat and cheeses, and condiments, and close friends and family members were asked to bring side dishes and salads. My husband’s aunt made the most beautiful multi-tiered wedding cake for us, and our expense was minimal! No one went away hungry.

My sister’s reception was more of a sit-down affair, but still did not cost us a fortune. Knowing the reception would take place in October, we thought that it was taking place close enough to the holidays to have a Thanksgiving-style dinner. Most of our relatives don’t have the opportunity to see one another during the holidays anyway, and we knew this would be a great opportunity to get everyone together and spend some time visiting and eating a wonderful meal.

My husband barbecued a turkey, my mom baked a ham, and we again asked close friends and family members to bring their favorite holiday salads and side dishes. The dinner was a huge success. A family friend made the wedding cake and let us borrow her punch bowl. The wedding cake included the cake top that had adorned our own parents’ wedding cake more than 30 years ago. This was a surprise for my sister, as was the crystal cake plate that had been a wedding gift to our parents from a great grandmother.

All of our family’s wedding receptions have been huge successes, and while requiring a lot of effort on the part of many friends and family members, have never cost any one of us more than $100 or so. When planning your next wedding reception, don’t focus on the lavishness of the event, focus on creating a memorable day that will live on in your family’s memories for years to come.

‘ello? ‘ello? ‘ello? Is that the Wedding, then?

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

You hear them at champagne-flowing parties. You hear them in crowded trains. You hear them in bumpy buses. And much, much too often you hear them at weddings.

They’re a curse and abomination to many people everywhere, but to a couple about to be married, they’re the absolute limit.

The organ bursts into a triumphant wedding march, followed almost immediately by a high-pitched ring-ring, ring-ring of a mobile phone. “The wedding’s just started,” you hear someone affecting a whisper. “Call you back in a tick.”

“I, Michael, take you, Wendy, to be my lawfully, wedded wife.”

Ring-ring, ring-ring, from another direction. “Sorry about that, folks, forgot to switch off my mobile.”

The celebrant pauses, greeted by breathless anticipation, but as he is about to make the solemn pronouncement, several mobiles go off at the same time. One is just the ordinary, penetrating shrill, the other begs Polly to put the kettle on so we can all have tea.

It should have been expected that this state of affairs could not, and would not be borne. As I speak, the fight against the invasion at weddings of the evil mobile is well in hand.

Keep an eye on the order of service that’s going to hit you at the next wedding you’re attending and don’t be surprised if it goes something like this:-

(a) Opening song performed by Dimity, the bride’s sister.

(b) Call to prayer by Reverend Marsden, the groom’s uncle.

(c) Call to switching off mobile phones by the MC.

To reinforce the idea that mobiles will not be welcome at the wedding, couples now place on their invitation, just under the RSVP, a very distinct PS, “Please leave your mobile at home”.

But because obsessions are obsessions, are obsessions, the bride and groom determined to have their guests talk to each other rather than into their mobile, have evolved yet another strategy.

As each guest is about to enter the room, he or she is presented with a long-stemmed red rose by a charming little flower girl. While the guest’s attention is thus diverted, the best man or the maid of honour, depending on the sex of the guest, remove any mobiles detected on the person concerned. Immediately confiscated, the mobile is returned to the guest at the end of the festivities.

And if, as sometimes happens despite all precautions taken, the solemnity of the ceremony is broken by either a ring, or some light-hearted ditty, before the guest so much as moves his hand towards the sock where he’s secreted the offending piece of plastic, he is quickly seized by a couple of burly ex-footballers, and ejected unceremoniously from the room.

So let it happen to every wedding guest who forgets to abide by the wedding guest code, “While at a wedding, I shall speak to every other guest at least once, and two or three times if practicable, and will not use a mobile at all”.

Selecting a Glass Transportation Rack: the Things You Must Find out about Aluminum, Stainless Steel &Amp; Carbon Steel Glass Transportation Racks

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Buying a glass rack and glass truck is quite a bit different from purchasing any other kind of glass machinery. While the glass business advances, the handling tools that makes it possible, makes improvements at the same time.

The efficient and safe transport of flat glass and its dozens of applications, created the numerous types of glass rack designs to fulfill demand.

With the tremendous selection of options at your disposal, an informed due diligence considering your situations unique requirements is your first step to purchasing a glass truck. However its easy to purchase a universal glass transportation rack from the biggest equipment makers, for no or little additional expense you have a custom-made glass rack built to your specific needs.

Knowing your requirements in a few ways will help you decide on the body and chassis tandem that will maximize your investment.

Keep in mind that bodies can normally have a life span of two and sometimes three chassis. Looking that far in advance demands a bit of work due to the unfortunate fact that the glass rack body may only be remounted on a certain chassis type design. The chassis type will also dictate necessary considerations of the body type such as ledge width, payload, and rack size.

Glass racks usually come in in 3 fundamental materials: carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel. All of these brings its own positives and flaws.

Carbon Steel is the most affordable rack type, even though it can result in higher maintenance expense to keep it shiny and in good shape, which can be a challenge in rust creatingclimates.

Aluminum racks are popular for their lightweight characteristics. When anodized, painted and polished, an aluminum glass rack will keep looking great up to a decade with just minimum maintenance. Aluminum cost quite a bit more and are more troublesome to fix than steel.

Stainless Steel is the ideal glass rack material for buyers concerned with durability and anti-corrosive materials. Should the steel be measured properly, a steel glass rack will provide a years of little upkeep and extended service. Because a stainless steel glass racks corrosion proof quality, etching the exposed steel for painting is hard, and thus the rack bodies are not painted. An exposed steel appearance is the steel glass racks usual form. The only one downside of steel at this point is its expensive purchase price.

Then, What is the Real Holy Spirit?

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Then, what is the real Holy Spirit?

Christianity is not just a religion but it is a way of Life. None of us could remain a Christian if it wasn’t for someone, always with us, to help us thru this walk. Our understanding of Prophecy nor Scripture would be complete without someone teaching us what the truth was.

Beginning with Genesis thru the Book of Revelations the Holy Ghost {Holy Spirit} has always been with God for He is Gods Spirit. The Holy Ghost is mentioned 89 times in the new Testament alone. The Holy Ghost is our comforter and He leads us into all truths of the Bible. To say that the Holy Ghost has not yet arrived, would be saying that Jesus did not do what He said He would do. John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Without the leadership of the Holy Ghost, the Bible would never have been written. Lets talk a little about the Baptisms of John the Baptist. If you’ve noticed in Scripture, the passages that speak of our salvation, the Holy Ghost when instructing what is to be written, He never speaks of Himself, as was promised by Jesus. [Eph_3:5; 1Pe_1:12.] John 16:13-14; Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

1Co 2:10-13; But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 1Co 2:10-13 tells us that without the guidance of the Spirit, man would only know the things of man, carnal things. The Bible cannot be understood by the carnal mind, why, because the carnal mind is at em-empty with God, it is not subject to the laws of God and neither can be.

Mans wisdom and knowledge is limited to the carnal, the things of the flesh. We must separate the flesh from the spirit and start thinking in the spiritual and not the physical. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. “Comparing spiritual things with spiritual”, This is where many find trouble with Bible interpretation, they try to compare Spiritual with the physical, the temperial with the immortal. Now to understand who the Holy Ghost is, in John 16:13-14 & 1Co 2:10-13, the Holy Ghost is called “The Spirit Of Truth, “The Holy Ghost”, “The Comforter”, “The Holy Spirit” & “The Spirit of God.” This tells us that all these are one with God, for the Spirit spoken of, is God. He is part of what we call the “Holy Trinity.” Many dispute this assumption, but its hard to kick against what the Scriptures are stating. Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: The Baptisms that John performed were a prelude to the real Baptisms under the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost.

John Baptized unto Repentance, but under the name of Jesus we are Baptized under Salvation. Jesus emphasized great importance on the Holy Ghost. Even John the Baptist mentions His importance, not for Himself but for the Testimony from Him of The Christ. Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Why? Because these three are one, you cannot have one without the other. The Holy Ghost gives power unto the Believer, to perform the things of the Christ. This is where the end times Church is missing out on all the blessings of God, because of their belief that the Gifts of the Spirit were for an earlier age. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

A Director of Man; Act 13:4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. Act 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; The commission of the Holy Ghost; John 16:7-15; Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
“Reprove”,

1. To blame; to censure.

2. To charge with a fault to the face; to chide; to reprehend. Luke

3. To blame for; with of; as, to reprove one of laziness.

4. To convince of a fault, or to make it manifest.

5. To refute; to disprove.

6. To excite a sense of guilt. The heart or conscience reproves us. I’m not to fond of the word, “conscience” for what people call conscience, is the spirit within the man.

7. To manifest silent disapprobation or blame. [The vicious cannot bear the presence of the good, whose very looks reprove them, and whose life is a severe, though silent admonition.

The Holy Ghost is the one who convicts us of our sin.] Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Part of the commission of The Spirit is to also help us thru our many infirmities . Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Sin is the fault of man, who has chosen to sin. Sin was not forgiven under the Law but were only put off for another year. Even David and the prophets of the Old Testament were directed by the Holy Ghost{Spirit} Mar 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. What is the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost? An indignity offered to God by words or writing; reproachful, contemptuous or irreverent words uttered impiously against Jehovah.
Blasphemy is an injury offered to God, by denying that which is due and belonging to him, or attributing to him that which is not agreeable to his nature. In the middle ages, blasphemy was used to denote simply the blaming or condemning of a person or thing. Among the Greeks, to blaspheme was to use words of ill omen, which they were careful to avoid.

1. That which derogates from the prerogatives of God. Mark
2. To speak of the Supreme Being in terms of impious irreverence; to revile or speak reproachfully of God, or the Holy Spirit. 1 Ki 21. Mark 3.

2. To speak evil of; to utter abuse or calumny against; to speak reproachfully of. 1. To arrogate the prerogatives of God. This man blasphemeth. Who can forgive sins but God? Math.9. Mark 2.

IMPI’ETY, n. [L. impietas;in and pietas, pius.]
1. Ungodliness; irreverence towards the Supreme being; contempt of the divine character and authority; neglect of the divine precepts. These constitute different degrees of impiety.
2. Any act of wickedness,as blasphemy and scoffing at the Supreme Being, or at his authority; profaneness. Any expression of contempt for God or his laws, constitutes an impiety of the highest degree of criminality. Disobedience to the divine commands or neglect of duty implies contempt for his authority, and is therefore impiety.
Impiety, when it expresses the temper or disposition, has no plural; but it is otherwise when it expresses an act of wickedness, for all such acts are impieties. Here Jesus tells His Deciples not to think about what to say but that the Holy Ghost would direct their words. Mar 13:11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
Luke 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. Luke 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Luke 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. This next verse is the reason why we can preach and testify of God.

John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Act 1:2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Act 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

2Co 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. 1st Cor. is giving the difference between Charity and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to man. Gifts will eventually cease but Charity will never cease.

These are just a few verses that teach us that the Holy Ghost came to us as was promised by Christ.

WWFJD?

Friday, February 27th, 2009

There is a slogan making the rounds in church circles
(especially in the U.S.) which asks “What would Jesus do?”
It is abbreviated WWJD? and the letters feature on
everything from T-shirts to jewellery. They act both as a
reminder to the person wearing them and as an opening to
a Christian witness when the uninformed ask what they
stand for.

I love the slogan, because I long to see Christians literally
following the teachings of Jesus instead of following the
various doctrines which have been created in his name. I
believe that a Christian is a follower and imitator of Jesus;
so anything that gets people thinking about what Jesus
would do in any given circumstance is a step in the right
direction.

Parents especially find the WWJD? practice helpful in
getting their young people to stay on the straight and narrow.
Teens refrain from smoking, drinking, swearing, telling dirty
jokes, and associating with unseemly characters as a
response to the question whenever it comes up in their
mind. They behave respectfully, go to church regularly, and
avoid sexual contact with others.

But I am still concerned that this new trend is being heavily
influenced by a misunderstanding with regard to who the
real Jesus is. Too many young people are asking
themselves “What would a false Jesus (or Jesuses) do?”
(WWFJD?) and the answers they are coming up with do not
resemble the real biblical Jesus of history.

Some of the false Jesuses have reunited families, enabled
people to get off drugs, to avoid bad social influences, and
to stop gambling. They have brought people back to church
meetings and Bible studies, reformed criminals, helped
people to overcome stress, to stay healthier, to find jobs,
and to gain promotions. Much of this is commendable. But
the one thing they do not do is to save souls. Not one
person will find eternal life through the false Jesuses that
exist only in their imaginations.

Reforms can be accomplished through government
organisations, through service clubs, and through other
individuals and organisations which make no claim to
giving eternal life. But eternal life is something that can only
come from God himself. It is a miracle of such proportions
that you can be sure that there will be no room for cheating
on the instructions to obtain it. If you really want to receive
eternal life, then it would pay you to read the fine print
carefully, and not to fall for any counterfeits.

Last night I had a dream. I had purchased an extremely
cheap non-refundable ticket on an ocean cruise…
something I’ve often dreamed of being able to afford. But
when I got to the docks, I discovered that the cruise “ship”
was an inflatable dingy, which was so constructed that if I
were to move at all on it, it would simply sink. Nothing I
could do would make the “ship” live up to my expectations,
and it was too late to get a refund.

This is how it is with false Jesuses. They may work fine
when it comes to some social issues, like helping people to
adjust to life in modern society. But when you move out onto
the oceans of life after death, they are totally useless. And by
the time most people realise that, it is too late to get a
refund.

I would like to discuss a number of different types of false
Jesuses that have confused people, and which have
actually led them away from the genuine Jesus of the Bible.
There is a lot of overlap between these various Jesuses,
and some will almost seem to be identical, since most of
us have borrowed from several to get a vague picture in our
minds of how Jesus would act in various circumstances.

The Orthodox Jesus

We’ll start with the Orthodox Jesus. This is the one that
follows the fundamental doctrinal teachings of whatever
church he happens to be attending. The Orthodox Jesus
would never think to question or challenge local church
teachings, although he would definitely challenge the
teachings of any group that was labelled a cult, or otherwise
identified as being outside the mainstream of orthodoxy.

Obviously, this Jesus contradicts the Jesus of the Bible,
who was actually executed as a heretic by the orthodox
religious leaders of his day.

The Law-Abiding Jesus

Next, there is the Law-Abiding Jesus. This one would never
think to disobey any of the laws of the land. He would regard
the police force as upholders of righteousness, because
they protect law-abiding citizens from the criminal elements
in our society.

This Jesus also contradicts the biblical Jesus, who was on
the run from Jewish authorities for having broken certain
regulations with regard to working on the Sabbath, and for
having made some questionable statements about whether
or not his followers needed to pay taxes. His hideout was
finally discovered with the help of a traitor from his own
gang, and he was arrested by the civil authorities on the
grounds that his behaviour and teachings were a threat to
the stability of the government. He was eventually executed
as a common criminal.

The Patriotic Jesus

Then there is the Patriotic Jesus. He loves his country, and
would gladly lay down his life in defence of all that it stands
for.

But the real Jesus was instrumental in challenging the
corruption that existed in his country. (It existed because of
compromise between the religious authorities and the
political authorities.) Jesus prophesied the destruction of
his own country, which he said would serve as a stepping
stone to the development of a better government that would
be invisible and universal. He called this revolutionary new
government “the kingdom of heaven”.

The Traditional Jesus

And what about the Traditional Jesus? The Traditional
Jesus has many of the same traits that the Jesuses we
have already listed have; but he also supports behaviours
and practices that are not required by the laws of the land,
but which are just part of the local culture. He is
conservative, and he looks with suspicion on anyone who
would try to change the traditional ways of doing things,
whether it be religious practices or social taboos.

This is the one who promotes good table manners, Sunday
worship, white shirts and ties, frequent use of terms like ’sir’
and ‘madam’, and circumspect behaviour at all social
events. By contrast, the real Jesus was not afraid to call
religious leaders “damned hypocrites”, to knock over tables
in the Temple, to break Sabbath regulations, to associate
with publicans and sinners, and to eat food with unwashed
hands. He actually instructed his followers not to use
terms like sir (which comes from ’sire’ and means ‘father’),
Mr. (which means ‘master’) and Madam (the feminine
equivalent of ‘master’).

Other Conservative Jesuses

There are other similar Jesuses, such as the Polite Jesus,
the Popular Jesus, the Successful Jesus, or the
Respectable Jesus.

They, too, always know how to behave in such a way as to
avoid scandal, and not rock the boat. There is a great deal of
unity between all of these various Jesuses, so that it is often
difficult to tell one from the other. Unfortunately, aspects of
each of these false Jesuses come to mind these days
whenever you ask church-educated people, “What Would
Jesus Do?” And they usually overlook what the real Jesus
would do, as a result.

The Trendy Jesus

There has arisen yet another Jesus in recent years: He is
the Trendy Jesus. At first glance, he appears to be nearer to
the radical Jesus of the Bible. But on close examination, he
is a disappointment too. The Trendy Jesus does choose to
question the way things are going, but his suggestions for
change always fall short of actually exposing all of the other
Jesuses for the phonies that they are. What the Trendy
Jesus wants is minor changes to the system without losing
the support of the very system that he seeks to change.

Trendy Jesuses introduce new fads and gimmicks (such as
WWJD? engraved on bracelets and necklaces), modern
music, variations to the worship service, changes in dress
regulations, emphases which reflect political trends toward
increased environmental awareness, greater tolerance of
racial, religious, and sexual differences, and moves to get
the government (always the government, and not the Trendy
Jesus himself) to help the poor, and right the wrongs of the
world.

But we do not find either gimmicks or efforts to stir the
government into action in the life and teachings of the real
Jesus… the one who alone can give eternal life. And the
reason for this is because the real Jesus was not trying to
promote the systems of the world, or trying to achieve
success in the eyes of the world around him. He was only
interested in promoting faith in an omnipotent, eternal God.

He had come from heaven, and he knew that he would be
returning to heaven. Eternal life was not going to be found in
the systems of man, but only in harmony and fellowship with
God the Father, the Creator of all life.

Conclusion

Whether you are a conformer or a reformer, what Jesus
wants you to consider is becoming a spiritual revolutionary
instead… one who has dropped out of the rat race and
caught sight of an eternal kingdom which exists in the
hearts of all those who have such faith in God.

What would Jesus do? He would do like Abraham, and kill
his own son if God told him to. He would cut off his hand
before he would let it stop him from gaining eternal life. He
would lay down his own life for God and for others. He
would forsake everything that he owns to have eternal life.
He would leave his family, his friends, his job, his home,
and go into all the world preaching the good news of an
eternal kingdom that only comes when we let go of all the
other counterfeits.

Are you ready to become his follower, and to really do what
he would do?

Achievement; Part 2

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

In my last article ACHIEVMENT Part-1 we discussed personal achievement and developing goals and objectives by writing down a want list or wish list…everything you could do or have by snapping your fingers without any effort at all. Personal development is a funny thing…statistically, only about 5% of readers took any action on this task.

The reason is simple…it’s called the 95/5 rule and it goes like this: 5% of our population is truly financially successful, economically free or rich. These are the elite minds of our generation who accomplish astounding achievements and generate enormous wealth…people like Henry Ford or Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft Corporation. The other 95% of the population “follows the followers”.

From this remaining balance of 95% of people, a rough estimate is that 30% of the people go on to become wealthy doctors, lawyers, bankers, technical professionals, small business owners, entrepreneurs, etc… with an additional 15% living upper middle class lives through long-term industrial employment. Which leaves the remaining balance of 50% of the population… these are the “average” people who get a job working for the wealthy or the rich. These are the people who occupy the lower middle and lower class sectors of our economy.

This aforementioned generalization is not meant to be a science…it’s meant to be an illustration to highlight the main difference between high achievers and under-achievers. Can you guess what separates some people from one group and some from another? It’s not looks…it’s not wealth…it’s not luck. Those people who occupy the upper 50% of the economic stratosphere got there because they THOUGHT about it and took ACTION. They did what we talked about last week…the hoped, wished, dreamed and fantasized about what they wanted to do with their lives, they developed sound plans and they took action! They worked hard to get where they are but they also worked intelligently. Think about this: It takes no more effort to think about big things than it takes to think about little things. However, it will take more effort to do big things than little things.

If you are participating with this mini-series topic-theme which is setting personal goals and objectives and you have developed your wish/want list…the next question you should ask yourself is how are you going to get it (or them) done? How are you going to start? What actions should you take and when? The answer (s) are pretty straightforward: Start now, right where you are whether you are ready or not. What do you need to help you achieve your goals? Do you need an education? Start at your public library, it’s free. Do you need guidance? Ask successful people you know to help you, get their advice. The key, no matter where you are starting from is to have a clear idea what you want to achieve and developing reasonable and achievable plans to get there. If you need help, by all means get help. Most business people will be glad to give you some direction and you can call any high school, college or government organization like human services to get direction.

Zimmer Durom Cup Hip Lawsuits Not Advantageous for Hip Implant Recipients

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Numerous people who experienced durom acetabular component applied in their hip cup replacement surgeries are finding that there are complications that far exceed the normal expectations for recuperation. These people are experiencing a lot of unneeded pain for longer time periods, looking forward to revision surgical procedures and magnified medical expenses, and losing income by being unable to work at their regular jobs. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is claiming that that their hip cup implant in no way malfunctioning and say it is not their fault for the surgical failures, many unfortunate people are filing cases against them and receiving settlements.

These suffering people definitely merit some aid and restitution which is why product liability lawyers are telling them to initiate lawsuits. dr dorr has been paying out of court for some of these claims. All The Same, even if the money they are being offered by all standards seems reasonable, in most cases patients are settling too quickly and without provision being made for repeat issues if they happen down the road. Without waiting to find out what cases are actually going to be worth, individuals could find themselves ending up paying alot more money out of their own funds when further complications arise.

For anyone who thinks they may have a claim against Zimmer may consider checking into it. If you think you may qualify, you can call a attorney to find out for sure. Look for one that operates nationwide and that focuses primarily on litigation against flawed medical devices. This law firm has done the extra work and setup a special division to research and take care of the claims against Zimmer and obtain nice sized settlements for their customers.

If your orthopedic Dr. lets you know that you require a revision surgical process to fix your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, get in touch with an attorney as soon as humanly possible.

As soon as lawyer comes to the conclusion that you have a possible case, be ready to wait in order to get the best settlement that you could possible get. Heed the good advice that your attorney offers you and dont demand speedy restitution. By not rushing this stage, you will most likey get a larger settlement offer.

Going The Extra Mile

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

There is one sure way to get what you want in life, but few people actually do it. Put this practice firmly into your day to day business activities and you will have an advantage over the rest of the crowd.

Successful people realize their life long dreams by doing things that most people are not willing to do. If you can just do what is needed instead of what you want to do, you can accomplish a lot.

People that get what they want in business don’t just give 100% each day. When the day is through and you’ve done your best, it is now time to make the extra effort to accomplish one more small goal or to finish the day’s original goal. ‘Going the extra mile’ does not require a massive effort on your part. If you put forth only 5% of your daily effort, a small goal is easily attained. Doing this only three days a week can produce impressive results by the end of the month.

Do you have a problem getting things done? Then don’t be satisfied with another day gone and your goal not met. Put forth that small extra effort on a regular basis and you will begin reaching your goals.

Going the extra mile is part of a small business success mindset. It’s your business, you are ultimately responsible for the results. Setting deadlines for yourself and writing down your goals makes it easier to go the extra mile. You can see on paper the goal set for that day. Many times you will see that by the end of the day you are very close to meeting your goal. You can now go your extra mile because you know it is only going to take a small amount of extra effort.

Going the extra mile will enable you to reach more of your goals. This allows you to ‘raise the bar’ on your new goals, creating growth in your business. Growth does wonders for your attitude and makes the road to success more enjoyable.

What’s the bottom line on going the extra mile? More signups for your network marketing business. More sales for your infoproduct business. And you’ll get what you want a lot faster when you are willing to do what others are not.

STOP! Reading the Headlines and Live Your Own Life First

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Imagine! 40 is old. The California State Supreme Court has said that when are you are 40, employers can discriminate against employees using this age as the excuse.

I attempt to ignore all headlines in the newspapers. I try not to react to how I feel when I read them.

I try I really do, but I cannot stop today.

It’s not new, but now, extremely blatant. I’m angry, but so what. That’s my problem. Let it go and move on.

I gave up that particular battle years ago. I became self-employed in various disguises. I chose to be in a business that did not discriminate because I was a woman.

In my last salaried position I was paid half the salary of the former male manager. Did more and received less. I then decided only to work in a way that I was paid for my skills, not my age, weight, gender or marital status. This was my motivation. Enough was enough. Finished up, walked away and never looked back. On to better things.

I started as an independent contractor, then went on to manage other independent professionals. The next step was owning my own business. I reinvented my business several times over, and in the process, myself.

During all this time, I don’t recall reading a newspaper or paying attention to headlines. Maybe I knew more than I thought at the time.

As my wise daughter so brilliantly asks: “What does it have to do with me?” Rightly so. Stop wasting time with things that have nothing to do with you or things and people you cannot change.

The solution?

Ignore what doesn’t serve you- in my case, news headlines- and use that time to start your own business. Small, big, it doesn’t matter. Just do something.

Hear the one about the Cat Massage Lady? She started a business giving cats massages. Really. Then she went on to books, tapes, CDs, videos and seminars. Now she’s training others to do the same.

There is Art for Infants, Scrapbooks for Anything and not one of the thousands of new businesses has anything to do with the internet. They all have to do with necessity being the mother of invention, desperation and a desire not to be discriminated when you are 40. Oh, yeah, and making money, too.

Walk through your house, room by room , including the attic and the garage. What do you do well? What excites you? If it excites you, it excites someone else. How can you make it work for others?

Whether you are 7, 47 or 70, you can start your own business. I saw a young girl in front of a Designer’s Showcase house that was selling cake slices and cookies. I asked how she was doing and who made the sweets. She said she did, made $34.00 and was happy and proud.

So was I. No one told her she couldn’t. There may be no limits to her desires.

By now you are saying, OK, that works for others, but not me. On the contrary. No more excuses. If you already own a business or are an independent professional, you can still do something else. Create something new or invent a niche within your existing business.

If you have a 9-5 job, set aside 10 per cent of your day, that’s 24 minutes, and take inventory. What are your hobbies? Look at what’s missing and fill the void.

But first, STOP! Stop reading headlines or doing anything that provides no benefit to your life or does not align with your own personal values.

Learn that living your own life will leave you with no time to read the headlines and loads of time to be creative and really Celebrate Your Life, no matter what your age.

The Message Of Katrina

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Copyright 2005 Mark Myhre

As we continue to watch the heart-wrenching images of the damage and destruction brought on by hurricane Katrina, we naturally search for a way to make sense of it all.

Why is it so bad?

Why must so many suffer?

Why did this have to happen?

And perhaps the most meaningful question of all – What can I do to help?

Many people heard the call – and responded by personally traveling to the stricken area.

Many more donated money or other resources. Many have opened their hearts and even their homes to the seemingly endless number of displaced citizens.

And that’s the way it should be.

Human nature – at the most basic level – embraces human kindness. Nurturing is hard-wired into every human form.

But many people watching just don’t have the ability to help in these ways. And some have closed off their own hearts to compassion and therefore lack the willingness to get involved.

Others, having both the ability and the willingness to help – simply put off the choice to do anything. No matter where you stand – and you do stand somewhere on the continuum of participation – Katrina has a message for you.

Whether you actively participate in the relief efforts, or whether you stand back and say, “It’s not my responsibility” – Katrina practically demands your attention.

For some, Katrina is a whisper. For others – more directly affected – it’s a shout.

Look at New Orleans as a metaphor for your life.

A city surrounded by levies – huge walls that keep out the water. It compares to a human heart – surrounded by walls – that keep out not only the pain, but also the emotions that come up in the living of life. We build and plan and structure a barrier that keeps us from feeling our own emotions. We fortify ourselves, and like to think we’re ’safe’ – because we’ve protected our hearts.

Along comes something that breaks through our walls. All of a sudden we’re vulnerable and exposed. Our pain is revealed. Our walls failed and we must deal with it – like it or not.

The first message:

Examine Your Walls.

“Where do I sandbag my emotions? Where is my wall? What do I do to keep out the pain? Is that really the best option?”

Secondly:

Many on the news have quickly turned to blame and pointing fingers.

“Who is responsible for this?!”

“Who should be held accountable?”

“Who’s to blame?!!”

The message for you to ponder:

“Who is responsible for my life? Who is running the show? Is my ego or my inner child making the rules and decisions in my life – or is it me – as the adult – who’s in charge?”

Seek your own inner authority. Become aware of the various ‘agencies’ inside of you right now.

You are a multi-faceted individual – much more complex than you may realize. Who’s leading your life? Who’s been forced to take responsibility for your actions?

Do you function as a child, an adolescent, a critical parent, or do you function as an adult?

A third message of Katrina:

“Where do I feel uprooted and removed? How have I been ‘forced’ to abandon my hopes and dreams – my joys – and my heart’s desires?

“How have I been separated from my own visions of living a happy and productive life? Where is my forced separation that has turned me into a refugee from my heart and soul and spirit?”

Katrina offers a chance for introspection and an opportunity to learn more about yourself.

The examples listed above are certainly not the only messages – but they offer a starting point for pondering your own situation in life.

Ultimately, Katrina calls for compassion, for gracious giving, and eventually for cleansing and rebuilding.

Externally – in New Orleans and the surrounding areas… and internally – in your heart and *its* surrounding areas.
